The Unit Team

Our Diversity

We are enriched by welcoming staff from North, Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Their ability to translate for patients and families in 48 languages brings a wealth of cultural understanding and knowledge to every team at the Grace. Our staff also represent most of the world’s major religions, and this diversity helps ensure that we can meet the needs of our patients and families with dignity and respect.

We truly believe that a high quality of work life encourages staff to deliver the best care and service to our patients and their families at the Grace.  Staff at the Grace become involved and actively participate in committees and working groups.

Quality of Life

Team Building Activities:

One of our new after work staff activities is lawn bowling.  The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre has a lawn bowling team which was established this spring.  Taking advantage of the new neighbour which we moved to as a result of the Infrastructure Renewal Project, Brent Martin, Clinical Dietitian, in exploring the neighbourhood discovered a lawn bowling club; Wells Hill Lawn Bowling Club.  The team made up of eight staff members bowl every Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. over the summer months.  This has been a new experience for all members and is building team spirit.

In 2012 and 2013, twenty staff members and volunteers participated in the TIDBRF (Toronto International Dragonboat Race Festival).  In the cold and wet spring months, the team practice weekly to perfect their synchronized strokes.  The races were held at Centre Island in June and all the efforts put in by the crew members help the Grace on Fire team capture a bronze medal in their race division.

Staff Activities Committee:

Our Staff Activities Committee negotiates special event ticket discounts for movies, sporting events and theatre for staff, their families and friends to enjoy.

Long Service Awards

Each year a group of employees achieving 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service receive acknowledgement by their peers and personally by the President & CEO.  This acknowledgement celebrates their commitment, dedication and contrition.  Remarkably, 63% of our staff have been employed at the Toronto Grace for over five years!

We thank all our employees for their contributions, commitment, service and dedication to the excellent care provided to patients and their families at the Toronto Grace.
