Message from the Board Chair
Welcome to The Salvation Army Grace Health Centre (TGHC). Once again, we have had a very dynamic year at the Grace. Significant changes for the Ontario health care system are underway, not only with the start-up of the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), but also with increased acuity and treatment opportunities within the Complex Continuing Care and Long Term Care sectors. Our hospital and its remarkable staff have risen to the challenge, and implemented strategic innovations in care. TGHC is a part of the Toronto Central LHIN, and we are contributing to the provision of complex continuing care, palliative care and specialized rehabilitation with our patient-focused expertise.
My years on the TGHC Board have been ones of continual learning. I have worked in health care for over 40 years, and I can say with conviction that there are not many organizations like the Grace. It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity over the past seven years to watch TGHC grow and thrive. AS one example, I would particularly like to note our Quality of Life and Outstanding Achievement Awards. These awards represent a part of the commitment of caring with compassion and a sense of community that every Grace member brings to our patients and their families. Our new logo, with multi-coloured hands embracing a heart, visually represents not only the varied backgrounds of our patients and staff, but also the multiple ways in which everyone here embraces the caring that we recognize through these awards.
I would like to thank all members of the Grace staff for their commitment to the patients and families and to our mission; board colleagues for their strategic thinking and contributions; our donors and sponsors for their support; our volunteers for their caring gifts of time and skill; and, the tremendous management team for their leadership.
Dr. Kathleen G. Macdonald
Board Chair, Toronto Grace Health Centre
