Neuromuscular Support Program
The Neuromuscular Support Program (NSP) is designed to provide ongoing clinical management aimed at improving/restoring the functional abilities and quality of life of individuals who have neurological and/or neuromuscular conditions. This program includes an 8 bed
Stroke Unit, part of the South East Toronto Stroke Network.
Admission Criteria
|
Adults, 18 years and older
Patients with significant disability or altered functional status following a stroke or major neurological event or those living with debilitating neuromuscular diseases.
Patients
requiring slow-paced
rehabilitation need to have goals for at minimum two therapeutic interventions
(e.g. nursing for wound care, physiotherapy, speech language pathology etc.)
Patients have an anticipated ability to learn and participate in care. Complex neuromuscular conditions include :

Acquired Brain Injury,
Multiple Sclerosis,
Gullian-Barre syndrome,
neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders such as

Moyamoya disease,
LaFora Body Syndrome
Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

Admission applications accepted from acute care, rehabilitation, long-term care, community programs and primary care practitioners/teams.
Patients care needs may include non-ventilated tracheostomy care, enteral feeding, ostomy care and wound management.
