Neuromuscular Support Unit (3rd Floor)

Provides ongoing clinical management aimed at improving/restoring the functional abilities and quality of life of individuals who have neurological and/or neuromuscular conditions. This is a 34 bed unit consisting of four-bed, two-bed and one-bed rooms with bathrooms in each room and therapy gyms on the unit.

Admission Criteria
  • Adults, 18 years and older
  • Patient is medically stable
  • Patients with significant disability or altered functional status following a stroke or major neurological event or those living with debilitating neuromuscular diseases.
  • Complex neuromuscular conditions include:

  • stroke
  • multiple sclerosis
  • Gullian-Barre syndrome
  • neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders such as:


  • Moyamoya disease
  • LaFora Body Syndrome
  • Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease
  • Patients are accepted into slow- paced rehabilitation program (SPR) as per the following criteria:

  • Patient requires two or more interdisciplinary interventions (e.g. physiotherapy, wound management, SLP)
  • Expected discharge destination is to return to pre-acute living arrangement
  • Patients have an anticipated ability to learn and to participate in care
  • Patient is motivated to attend therapy and contribute to his or her rehabilitation
