Patients
Neuromuscular Support Unit (3rd Floor)
Provides ongoing clinical management aimed at improving/restoring the functional abilities and quality of life of individuals who have neurological and/or neuromuscular conditions. This is a 34 bed unit consisting of 4- bed, 2 -bed and 1- bed rooms with bathrooms in each room and therapy gyms on the unit.
Admission Criteria

Adults, 18 years and older
Patient is medically stable
Patients with significant disability or altered functional status following a stroke or major neurological event or those living with debilitating neuromuscular diseases.
Complex neuromuscular conditions include:

Stroke,
Multiple Sclerosis,
Gullian-Barre syndrome,
neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders such as
|
|
|
Moyamoya disease,
LaFora Body Syndrome
Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

|
Patients are accepted into slow- paced rehabilitation program (SPR) as per the following criteria:

|
Patient requires 2 or more interdisciplinary interventions (e.g. physiotherapy, wound management, SLP)
Expected discharge destination is return to pre-acute living arrangement
Patients have an anticipated ability to learn and to participate in care
Patient is motivated to attend therapy and contribute to their rehabilitation
