Complex Systems Support Unit (4th Floor)
Provides ongoing clinical management aimed at improving/restoring the functional abilities and quality of life of individuals who have chronic diseases and/or complex medical conditions. This is a 34-bed unit consisting of four-bed, two-bed and one-bed rooms with bathrooms in each room and therapy gyms on the unit.
Admission Criteria

Adults, 18 years and older
Patient is medically stable
Complex medical conditions may include:

cardio-respiratory diseases,
diabetes,
deconditioning as a result of prolonged hospitalization
transplants
renal disease including patients on heamodialysis (NB - dialysis done at acute hospital)

Patients are accepted into slow-paced rehabilitation program (SPR) as per the following criteria:
|
|
Patient requires two or more interdisciplinary interventions (e.g. physiotherapy, wound management, SLP)
Expected discharge destination is return to pre-acute living arrangement
Patients have an anticipated ability to learn and to participate in care
Patient is motivated to attend therapy and contribute to their rehabilitation
