Services
We believe that Spiritual Care is very important in the life of the patient and also in the lives of family members, friends and staff involved in patient care and support. For that reason, our Chaplains are on duty and on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact a chaplain using any of the methods listed on the section of this website.
Chaplaincy is a specialty within religious ministry that focuses on spiritual care provided to patients, family and staff in hospitals or other institutional settings. Chaplains are trained professionals who are equipped to meet the spiritual needs of patients, family and staff.
Since Toronto Grace Health Centre is owned and operated by The Salvation Army, all of our chaplains are Salvation Army Officers (Pastors). However, we are available to provide care for people of any faith tradition. If we are unable to provide for your spiritual needs, we will gladly contact the community clergy of your faith tradition.
Our chaplains are involved in most aspects of the patients care while in the health centre. Our chaplains:
- Are available to care for your needs at any time
- Will visit with patients regularly at the bedside or at another location in the hospital
- Conduct chapel services
- Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and rounds
- Will conduct weddings, funerals and memorial services if requested to do so
- Will contact community clergy from any faith tradition as required
- Will follow up with family members after a bereavement
Inspiring Thoughts
The Chapel
There is a wheelchair accessible chapel located on the 2nd floor of the health centre. This chapel is available for prayer and meditation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One of the highlights about our chapel are the beautiful stained glass windows, each of which was donated in memory of someone who died at this health centre. Although the chapel is decorated in a manner consistent with the Christian Tradition, prayer mats are available for members of the Muslim faith. Members of other faith groups are welcome to use the chapel as needed.Chapel Services are conducted twice each week on Thursdays and Sundays at 11:00am. Patients wishing to attend will be brought to the chapel for those services. Patients wanting to participate, but unable to attend, may watch the chapel services on the hospital internal TV system. In addition to these regular chapel services, Roman Catholic Mass and other special events are offered periodically. Once a quarter, a Memorial Service is held to honour those patients who have recently died at the Grace.
