“I started volunteering at Toronto Grace in the summer of 2012. At Chapel Service, my responsibilities include portering patients to the Chapel and playing piano during the Service. Everyone at the Grace is very friendly and supportive. I know that during my shift there is always someone to answer my questions, if I might have any. I find it rewarding to build a relationship with the patients; their smiles and stories always give me strength.

There have been many memorable moments. One of them is seeing patients build friendships with each other by sitting together and chatting before Chapel Service. It reminds me that even in challenging situations, people are still connecting, sharing their stories and becoming each other’s courage. I am always glad to see patients and their family singing with us during the Service. In addition to our Chaplains’ wonderful voice filling the room, I’m constantly surprised at how beautiful our patients and their families sound. This lovely little chorus of patients and their families is a weekly comfort for me, and makes me appreciate the power of music.”
