WHAT IS THE “FLU”?
Contagious infection of the nose, throat and lungs caused by Influenza A and B virus.

DID YOU KNOW?
• There is an average of 23,000 laboratory confirmed cases of Influenza cases each year;
● Influenza and pneumonia are ranked as the top 10 leading causes of death among the Canadian population;
● There is on average 12,200 influenza related hospitalization cases in Canada each year;
● According to the National Advisory Committee of Immunization there are approximately 3,500 deaths related to influenza on average each year in Canada

WHO ARE AT RISK FOR COMPLICATIONS FROM THE FLU?
● Babies
● Children under 5 year of age
● People over 65 years of age
● Pregnant people
● People with underlying medical condition
● Individual capable of transmitting influenza to those at high risk
