Chaplain holding the hands of a patient

Kathleen was admitted to palliative care for pain management. Music therapy was initially used to help alleviate some of her pain. In the first session, Kathleen expressed interest in writing a song for her daughter and granddaughter. Over two sessions, she shared memories she cherished of the time she had spent together with them, and write a message that she wanted to leave them with: I will always love you and you will always be my babies. The music therapist helped Kathleen to set her words to music, and then recorded the song on her phone. She was able to send the song to her family – a message they would be able to have forever.
