Tiffany shares, “Coming from a small province to moving to the big city of Toronto was hard for me. I had no friends and no family, I felt alone. I decided to put myself out there and volunteer. That’s when I stumbled upon a posting for a volunteer position for ARTS through TGHC. After meeting with Rima, reading and learning the values at TGHC, it really resonated with me. I realized it was not only an opportunity for me to connect with my new community, but also make a difference in others’ lives.

During my time with TGHC, I would have to say my favorite memory was made on my very first week of volunteering. I had met a patient with whom I easily connected with. It was a patient who never came to the art sessions as they had felt alone and anxious. It turned out I had shared a lot of similarities to one of their family members, which in turn created a safe and warm environment allowing them to open & engage artistically. Since that day, this individual has always participated with me and we’ve created so many new memories; like baking cookies, making Christmas cards, painting etc. It was like they were a kid again.

What I love most about volunteering at TGHC is the connections I make with patients. Learning about their life history, their passions and what makes them happy, and being able to create art to evolve around that is incredible. Knowing that even for one moment, I’m able to make them smile is truly rewarding!”
